The Turbo-Grafx-16 Entertainment SuperSystem, also known in France and Japan as the PC Engine, was a game console released by Hudson Soft and NEC Home Electronics. It was the first console to be released in the fourth generation and it was made to compete with the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES), but it ended up competing with the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) and the Sega Genesis.

Although it sold pretty well in Japan, the TurboGrafx-16 failed to break into the North American market due to the "SNES vs. Genesis war". It was released on October 30, 1987 in Japan and on August 29, 1989 in the United States, but it also had a limited release in the United Kingdom and Spain.
