Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero is a 1997 Midway (now Netherrealm Studios)/Avalanche Software game released for the PlayStation and Nintendo 64. It is a prequel to the Mortal Kombat series focusing on the original Sub-Zero, Bi-Han, as he is hired by sorcerer Quan Chi to hunt down the Amulet of Shinnok. Along with Mortal Kombat: Special Forces and Mortal Kombat Advance, it is one of the worst received games in the Mortal Kombat franchise.

2015 AVGN Episode

The episode first aired on December 22, 2015, three days before Christmas. The Nerd begins the review by expressing surprise he has never played this game before due to his love for the Mortal Kombat franchise and his fond memories of it. The Nerd reviews the Nintendo 64 version of the game (the only major difference being that the game uses still images during cutscenes rather than FMV cutscenes like the PlayStation.)

List of Complaints

  • Having to press B to turn Sub-Zero around in the right direction when the previous games had you placed in the right direction automatically.

At the end of the review, the Nerd expresses his frustration with the game by performing Sub-Zero's infamous Spine Rip fatality on the cartridge.
