Desert Bus is the 119th episode of The Angry Video Game Nerd. The episode was posted to on May 28th, 2014 [1] and was uploaded to later the same day. [2] AVGN Desert Bus marks the ten year anniversary since the first episode. In the episode the Angry Video Game Nerd reviews Penn & Teller's Smoke and Mirrors, in which Desert Bus is a minigame, and Castlevania II: Simon's Quest Redacted. It shows the Nerd being frustrated over the cult followings created by bad games such as Desert Bus, and deciding that he wants to retire from reviewing games. Then the Nerd picks out Castlevania II: Simon's Quest Redaction, an hack version of Simon's Quest that improves on mostly everything that was originally wrong with the game. The Nerd rejoices and proclaims that he will not retire, but figures that he has to do something big next and go outside the boundaries of the Nerd Room, hinting at Angry Video Game Nerd: The Movie.

Among the complaints the Nerd has for Desert Bus is the game requiring the player's constant attention (ex: If you don't touch the D-Pad, the bus will veer to the right of the road and if it goes off-road, a tow truck arrives to tow it back to the starting point), the game requiring the player to play for 8 hours only to gain a point (which is even more frustrating given the 45 mph speed of the bus), and the dull atmosphere (such as looping backgrounds, no rewards [in the form of playing casino games] and little to no music in the game).

  • In a similar manner to when he played The Terminator for the NES, the Nerd clamps down the A button on the NES controller and leaves the room.
  • This is the first episode to be posted following the 10-year anniversary of the AVGN series on May 25th, 2014. This episode also featured a 10-year anniversary intro featuring clips of games the Nerd reviewed as well as the Nerd flipping through a Nintendo calendar.
