Custer's Revenge, also released as Westward Ho, is a pornographic video game released in 1982 by Mystique for the Atari 2600.
Gameplay[]
You control a mostly naked and visibly aroused General Custer, who must cross the desert and dodge falling arrows to have sex with an Indian girl who is tied to a totem pole. The game later received an almost identical sequel, General Re-Retreat, in which Custer is tied to a pole, and you control the girl to dodge cannonballs to reach and fuck him.
Controversy[]
While the game's designer stated that the sex in the game was fully consensual[1], the perception that it contained rape attracted great controversy and protests by feminists and Native American activists. The game was never advertised nor widely promoted unlike many mainstream Atari games, instead being sold "under the counter" in a manner akin to banned books. The attention from the press actually helped it sell 80,000 copies - twice as much as Mystique's other porn games, Beat 'Em & Eat 'Em and Bachelor Party.
In AVGN[]
The game was reviewed in the episode Atari Porn. Custer also appears in AVGN Adventures as one of the bosses.
In popular culture[]
An arcade cabinet that reads Custer's Revenge can be seen in an episode of South Park (even though the game never had an arcade release).
